What's so special about GLD Solvent?

It's becoming increasingly common for yellowish (beige, yellow, to ochre) colors on smooth leather to bleed. This usually concerns car and furniture leather. The bleed is caused by various clothing items and materials. Jackets, trousers, or seat belts are the culprits. The fabrics, textiles, or leather used release dyes onto the leather surface of the seat. These form a chemical bond with the leather color. The dyes are absorbed into the leather surface. This color bleed cannot be removed with standard commercially available cleaners.

Always clean the discolored surface first with a strong cleaner and test to see if this is sufficient. If the discoloration cannot be removed, the surface should then be cleaned with GLD.

Apply GLD to a clean, white terry cloth and gently wipe the surface. The GLD dissolves the protective layer. Removing the stain may also dissolve some of the color. Therefore, be careful not to completely dissolve the protective layer. If the color dissolves, or if the stain cannot be completely removed, tint with Leder Fresh. If the color darkens significantly, dab the tint several times, drying it with a hairdryer in between.

After cleaning with GLD, the removed protective layer must be resealed. Apply Leather Fresh "neutral" or a matching color with a sponge. Leather Fresh neutral renews the protective layer but does not discolor the treated surface. To prevent further color bleeding, the surface should be treated with Leather Sealant. This product reduces the penetration of dyes into the leather. Finally, treat the leather with Leather Protector.

Note: GLD may change the leather structure!
