Start with a standard, complete wash – WITHOUT quick detailing, of course. There should be no paint protection present, otherwise the coating will not be able to adhere.
Depending on the result you want, this can be a light 1-step or heavy 3-step polish.
1-step for a smooth surface- if your car is new or in very good condition, then this is all you need.
Several steps to create the perfect look AND smooth surface - most cars will need this - if you want long-lasting protection for your car, why wouldn't you want it to be in perfect condition first?
Degreasing
If you only polished lightly, you just need to degrease with Prep.
If you have polished several steps, an extra wash is recommended to remove all oils from the polishing paste, dust and other residue. Wash the car with warm water and shampoo before degreasing it with a degreaser.
Your workspace
Apply the coating at a stable temperature (15-25°C) and ensure there is NO DIRECT SUNLIGHT. The higher the temperature, the faster you will need to wipe it off.
Lighting
Well-lit workspaces with indirect lighting are best – lights directed at the ceiling reveal poorly finished areas better than lights directed at the paintwork. A handheld light for close inspection is always recommended.
After coating
Remember that when you coat the car outside, you should apply a layer of Cure or Ceramic Detailer 1 hour after coating..
03 | Applying the coating
Do not be overly cautious, work efficiently and spread evenly.
Applying the coating to the applicator
Before we begin, we would like to clarify that these tips are for GYEON Q² One EVO which is the most user-friendly coating, ideal for your first experience with coatings.
First, generously coat the applicator with product so that the coating penetrates the applicator.
Afterwards, pour enough to cover the coating on the surface of the applicator - also ensure that the bottle never touches the applicator.
It is usually better to use too much product than too little.
Your 50x50cm working area
Start with the hood of your car:
Imagine a 50 x 50 cm square on the paintwork.
Form a “Z” shape with your applicator within your 50 x 50 cm working area.
Fill in the Z in the opposite direction until you have an even distribution of product.
Ensure that you go beyond the edges of your 50 x 50 cm working area to ensure that no areas between different sections remain uncoated.
Apply smoothly
If you work too slowly, there is a risk that the coating will adhere unevenly to the paint, so work quickly during application.
As you become more familiar with the procedure, you will be able to do larger sections at once.
Pro tip: Any leftover One EVO coating can be used to coat rims or plastic – definitely give it a go!
04 | Wipe-off
To level the product and remove residue.
Waiting time
The time you have to complete One EVO is 10 seconds to 10 minutes (absolute maximum), even though it is not necessary to wait, it gives you the freedom to do larger sections in one go.
Initial wipe-off
Use a coating towel, such as the Q2M BaldWipe, for the initial wipe-off.
Rub over/around the edges of your work area to ensure you don't miss anything.
Second wipe-off
Use a more soft, long fibererd towel, such as the Q2M SoftWipe, to remove excess product and residue.
During this step too, pay attention to not skip any part.
Pro tip: Once you are finished, check with an inspection light for blurred spots that were not properly assessed during your second assessment.
05 | Coating maintenance
To keep your coating Om je coating in optimal condition.
Regular wash
Now that your car has been coated, this is a piece of cake. Wash your car according to the standard washing procedure and experience how easy it is to remove all dirt.
Avoid aggressive chemicals, as these can affect the initial hydrophobicity, even if the coating is still present.
Decontamination wash
Do this every 6 months to get rid of flash rust and tar spots. Yes, you could do this every week, but it is not really necessary as long as there are no signs of contamination.
You will notice a significant difference each time you do this, freeing the coating from stubborn contamination.
Top up/boost
Protect your protection. Products like Ceramic Detailer are perfect to easily add fresh shine after every wash. o
This layer will absorb most of the dirt, so that the coating underneath will last even longer.
06 | The right coating for you
Your first coating?
One EVO is as easy to apply as wax - and the most forgiving, 1-layer ceramic protection to start off with.
With its long curing time and simple application, this is the coating we recommend for gaining experience with coatings.
What volume do I need?
A little goes a long way; when used correctly, these are the guidelines.
30ml for small cars (like a VW Polo)
50ml for medium-sized cars (like a BMW 3-Serie)
100ml for multiple cars - Unless you have an extremely large car such as a limousine, 100 ml is excessive for a car.
The right accessories
Not everything is included in the box - for the various steps, you will need:
